Precision is the only word that will correctly describe the Helix family of reels from MARADO. The research and development team worked for several years to create one of the most unique spool oscillation systems ever designed. This was such an important development that MARADO named three series of reels after this truly functional feature. The Helix reels’ spool oscillation is precisely driven by a worm gear and pawl system similar to that found in baitcasting reels. This mechanism is uniquely located directly beneath the spool and ensures maximum line capacity and improved, low friction line flow for longer casts from the extended spool.

An ordinary reel will allow the spool to oscillate during retrieve, winding the line evenly onto the spool. The unique Helix design permits this spool oscillation during retrieve and continues to allow oscillation when releasing line under drag. The turning motion of either the rotor or the spool is instantly translated into oscillation. The result is that the line is continuously fed in a straight line from the spool to the SUPER ROLLER line guide no matter how far a fish runs or the line level of the spool. The drag force on the line does not change due to variable line feed angles or from line-to-line friction. Minimized line friction eliminates a major cause of line twist and also reduces line damage. All of that research effort was well worth the cost.
